The bald eagle makes the biggest single nest of any kind of bird.
A pair of bald eagles usually stays together for life. They build a nest of sticks in a large tree and add to it year after year. Over the years, a bald eagle nest can grow so big that a medium-sized car could fit into it!
Bald eagles are not really bald – they have white feathers on their heads. The word “bald” also used to mean “white”.
Bald eagles live in forests near lakes, rivers and coatsts in most of North America.
They eat mainly fish, but also other bird and animals.
Bald eagles lay 1 to three white eggs at a time. Their chicks take about 80 days to leave the nest.
