Blue Jay

In the fall, blue jays hide acorns to eat during the winter.
A blue jay can carry five acorns at a time. It can hold three inside its throat in a special pouch.
At the same time, it carries a fourth acorn in its mouth and a fifth one with the tip of its beak.

The bird hides the acorns on the ground, under rocks and bushes and in soft dirt. If the blue jay does not come back to eat an acorn during the winter, it can grow into an oak tree. So blue jays are good tree planters!

A blue jay hides up to 5,000 acorns in a season.

To eat an acorn, a jay holds it with its feet! Then it pecks the acorn open with its beak.
