Cindy Klassen
Cindy Klassen was an Olympic speed skater. She was born in Winnipeg on July 12, 1979.
She is 41 years old.
She started skating when she was only two years old.
Skating was her favourite but she also tried lots of other sports,
like volleyball, basketball, and rugby, and lacrosse.
She wanted to play hockey too,
and played on boy’s hockey
teams for a long time, but she
eventually she was picked
to play on Team Manitoba, which was a girl’s team.
She also tried out for the women’s Olympic hockey team but didn’t make it.
After that she went back
to speed skating and it was her main sport.
She was in a lot of competitions and then she when to the Olympics in 2002 and won a bronze medal, which is third place.
She kept training and competing and then in 2006 she went to the winter Olympics again but
this time she won five
medals!
She won one gold, and two
silver, and two bronze.
That’s the most medals any
Canadian has won at one
Olympics.
She has also won the World Champion ship four times.
After that she was injured a
few times and even when
she recovered, she couldn’t
skate as fast as she used to,
so she retired from skating
in 2015.
After that, she became a police officer in Calgary, Alberta.
In total, Cindy Klassen won six Olympic medals, which is the same amount Clara Hughes won.
