Flounder
That doesn’t look much like
Flounder from Little Mermaid,
does it? Flounder are flatfish,
meaning they have a smooshed-
flat body shape that lets them
hide on the seafloor on their
sides. That’s why both their eyes
are on the same side of their
head, otherwise one would
always be buried in the sand
while the other looks up into the
water.
Flounder are also great at
disguises, thanks to special cells
called chromatophores. These
cells can change shape to allow
more or less color, meaning they
can blend in with their
environment and sneak up on
their food. It only takes them 2-8
seconds to change color!
