Below this zone, in the deepest
parts of the standing water, is
the PROFUNDAL zone.
It’s NOT as deep or dark or cold as the deep ocean, but it’s still ENOUGH that very few organisms live here.
Like the deep ocean, the PROFUNDAL zone is where organisms sink when they die,
providing food for those living at
the bottom.
