1. Traditionally, Nigerians don’t eat with forks or spoons. They scoop food with their right hand only!

2. Calabashes are giant gourds that Nigerians hollow out and dry to make into all kinds of things, from musical instruments to mixing bowls to butter churns, many calabashes are turned into all-purpose containers that people can carry on their heads.

3. The African Giant Snail is about 8 inches long. That’s longer than a brand new pencil!

4. Meet the Drill. The Drill is one of the rarest monkey’s. in fact, thirty years ago people thought they had gone extinct! Now naturalists believe there may be a few thousand drills left in the world.

5. Many hippos make their homes in the Niger River. In fact, the name hippopotamus comes from the ancient Greek for “horse of the river” they look pretty cute-those teeny-tiny ears! But hippos are actually one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. They have incredibly strong jaws and can run faster than most humans!
