Most birds can only flap up and down, but hummingbirds have flexible
shoulders that let them move their wings in a figure 8 shape.
When they do that super fast, they can keep themselves hovering in a single spot.
Which is how they can sip nectar on the fly. Hummingbirds are the only birds that can do this; other birds have to perch on branches.
