Info that I just got from my dad

Hey Ellie, here’s more info on the bookmark donation place both for you to have and if you’re wanting to post it.

The program is called “Cardz for Kidz”, but they also accept bookmarks! Their website is:

https://www.cardzforkidz.org

Cardz for Kidz is a charity that takes donations of homemade cards & bookmarks and sends them to people or groups that have signed up, providing them with encouragement. They started by delivering to kids in hospitals and other sick kids, but now send cards & bookmarks to lots of others like senior centers, adult hospitals, doctors’ offices for their patients, and more, all over the world!

The way it works for people making cards or bookmarks is that you can make any kind of those items, as long as you follow these guidelines:

1. Make sure it has a encouraging positive message: a joke, “You’re Awesome!”, “Shine Bright Like a Diamond!”, that kind of thing

2. You can pick any theme and make the message match the theme. Some theme guidelines though are:

– general-themed cards are the most preferred & can be delivered year-round

– seasonal cards (fall, winter, spring, or summer) are also good

– holiday cards should be sent at least 2 months before the holiday to make sure they can be delivered in time

3. Don’t use anything “fuzzy” – fuzz balls, felt stickers, sprinkle glitter (glitter glue is okay!), or anything else “fuzzy” that could easily fall off or be a good place for germs to hide. Non-fuzzy goodies like googly eyes, 3D stickers, etc. are okay!

4. If it’s a bookmark, laminate it so it lasts longer

5. Sign it with your first name and location

Here’s a video talking about hosting a card-making event, with some tips. Note that all this applies to bookmarks too!

Since they deliver all over the world, they also need card in other languages, so you can get some help & use some French or Spanish on some of your items!

Cardz for Kids & the people getting cards like to see what the crafters are doing, so feel free to take pictures while you’re making cards and upload them to social media, like Instagram. They also would like to get a picture of you holding the stuff you made before you send it!

Once you’ve got a bunch of things made, it’s time to send them!

1. If you’ve got a few different themes or languages, you can separate them into Ziploc bags and write what they are on the front to make it easier for the people at Cardz for Kidz to sort and send them out.

2. If you include a note with your name, email, and contents of the package inside, you’ll get an email once they’ve counted and sorted your items!

3. Address the package, and send it off. Cardz for Kidz is located in Chicago, Illinois – maybe we’ve passed by it on the way to Southern Grandma’s sometime!

Once Cards for Kidz gets your cards and/or bookmarks, they’ll count & sort them, then send them out to people who need amazing bookmarks just like what you sent. Congratulations, you’ve helped encourage people around the world!
