•Josiah Henson helped a lot of people escape to freedom on the underground

railroad

•He lived from 1789-1883. He lived to be 94. That is a long time.

•Josiah was born a slave and wanted to earn his freedom, but when he

finally saved up ENOUGH, he was cheated out of his money and his freedom

•Instead, he and his family escaped to Canada in 1830

•When he got to Canada, Josiah started Dawn, Ontario, the first black

settlement in Canada.
