Ostriches are the biggest bird in the world but can’t fly. They can run faster than any other bird though – 70 kilometers as hour. That’s faster than the fastest human runner!
An ostrich has such a strong kick that it can kill a lion.
Ostriches live in dry open areas and woodland in Africa.
They eat grass, seeds, leaves, flowers, fruit and roots.
They lay up to 11 white eggs at a time.
Ostrich eggs are huge — you can fit 24 chicken eggs inside 1!
Ostrich chicks can eat by themselves right away.
They leave the nest at 3 days old, and are completely on their own by four months.
Ostriches have the largest eyes of any land animal.
One ostrich eyeball is almost as big as a baseball.
