Richard Pierpoint
Point #1. Richard was born in 1744 .
He died in 1838.

Point #2. He was born in Africa and White slaveowners forced him to go to the United States
Point #3. Then there was a war called the War of Independence fought between England and the United States.
Point #4. Richard fought for England when they promised him that he wouldn’t have to be a slave anymore.
Point #5. The United States won the war, so Richard moved to Canada (Ontario) to be free.
Point #6. Then there was ANOTHER war! It was called the War of 1812.
Point #7. Richard made a deal to fight for Canada if he got land for him and his Black friends and family.
Point #8. Richard got 100 acres of land in Ontario and he and his family and friends built a town where there were no slaves.
Point #9. THAT WAS A LOT OF LAND!
