The Retrices
The tail is set stiff feather’s called rectrices. These are arranged identical pair’s with most bird’s having 6 pairs. The tail is what allows the bird in flight to steer. Tail feathers are lighter and stiffer than the body feather’s, are similar to the primaries and the secondaries on the wing.
