Ellie has requested a special quiz for this morning’s “Southern Grandma Zoom” 🙂 So, here it is! Have fun!!
#1. What was your favorite thing about our visit/trip a couple weeks ago?
EB: Getting to see everyone in person
SG: same
#2. If you got a new pet, what would you name it if it was a girl? What
would you name it if it was a boy?
E: If it’s a fish, then I’d call it Anna. If it was a boy, I’d call it Kristoff.
SG: Depends on what it is and the pet’s personality, so hard to decide
ahead of time. Offhand, maybe Princess for a girl, Yoda for a boy.
#3. What is the last song you listened to? Do you like that song?
EB: Dolly gospel song. Yes.*
SG: Take It To The Limit – The Eagles. Yes.
#4. What is your favorite fish that you have learned about so far?
EB: I liked the gross fish, lampreys and hagfish.
SG: Well, NOT lampreys or hagfish for me! I kind of like the rays.
#5. What was your favorite bird that you learned about in ornithology?
EB: Goldfinches
SG: hummingbirds or eagles
#6. If you could invite anyone over for supper, who would you invite? It
can be a real or imaginary person or character!
EB: Dolly Parton (and SG says, “Big Surprise! LOL!) I know.
SG: Gandalf from “The Lord of the Rings”
#7. What would you eat for supper with that person/character?
EB: Sweet and Sour Farmer’s Sausage, then use one of her cake mixes to make dessert.
SG: Maybe beef stew and a variety of other savories, then tea and cake for
dessert.
#8. Name 5 things that you would commonly put into the compost (Southern Grandma has her big compost bin and we have our small container under the fridge). You can see if you put the same things in the compost or different things!
EB: banana peels, orange peels, lemon peels, carrot peelings, rotten grapes.
SG: tea bags, potato peelings, leaves, paper, cardboard*
#9. What is your favorite thing about the fall season? What is your least
favorite thing about the fall season?*
EB: My favorite is to get set up for Halloween; & my least favorite is cleaning up after Halloween is done.
SG: favorite is colored leaves; least favorite is having to get plants ready for winter.
#10. What time does the sun set in Steinbach today? What time does the sun set in Parkersburg today? How many minutes different are the two (you’ll have to do some math here, Ellie!)
EB: Sunset is at 6:34pm central, which would be 7:34 eastern.
SG: Sunset is at 6:46pm eastern, or 5:46 central.
Using central times for both, since Vincent sunset is 5:46pm and Steinbach sunset is 6:34pm that would make it 48 minutes difference between the two.
#11. What is Uncle Jonathan going to make for supper today? 🙂
Our guesses are:
EB: Hamburgers and meatballs
SG: fish sticks and fries
What he actually decided: Ellie mostly wins! It’s Hamburgers! (though no meatballs!)

EB: BB8
SG: Yoda good choice Southern Grandma
#13. What is your favorite candy to get in your Halloween bag (or to buy for Trick-or-Treaters and keep some for yourself :)?
EB: Snickers or chocolate M&Ms.
SG: Snickers or Kit Kats (kids wouldn’t like the REALLY dark chocolate Iprefer)
#14. What is or was your favorite subject in school?
EB: Ichthyology
SG: English literature (in high school)
#15. What are 3 things (other than Zooming with each other) that you’re going to do today?
EB: blogging, work on a package’s for Southern Grandma, & makeing the Ornithology book into 2 parts so that my computer doesn’t crash when I am loading it so I can read it on my computer easier
SG: Work on the budget and pay bills, clear space in the dogarage to bring in plant’s , and winterize the windows in the dogarage. (Why call it dogarage? It got confusing saying something was in the garage… Which one? The new one or the attached garage? So Jonathan decided since the dogs stay in the attached garage, we’d call it the dogarage.)
