1. Family responsibilities were different for Indigenouspeople in Canada in the 1800s. The kids were responsible for learning theskills needed to survive from their elders like their parents and grandparents. The men in the community were responsible for hunting and fishing. The womenwere responsible for collecting berries and vegetables.
My family responsibilities are:
My dad: putting to bed, being an engineer, wheelchair repairs, mowing thelawn
My mom: making banana bread, diamond art, getting me up in the morning
Me: making bookmarks, cleaning up after myself, and blogging
2. My typical day is very different from that of anIndigenous girl living in 1803.
Here is an example of a diaryentry from a girl living in 1803:
Dear Diary,
It was another long, hard day. Mybrothers, sister and I helped our parents with their daily chores from morninguntil night. My mom taught my sister and me how to dig up the soil in thegarden because it had to be turned to be ready for planting.
Mother’s dress was finally worn outso she decided to pull the stitching out and make new dresses from it for mysister and me. Later my sister and I played with our dolls while we watched ourbrothers play lacrosse with some other boys from the community.
Yours,
Genesee
My Diary Response:
Dear Diary,
I DIDN’T help my parents AT ALL with their chores today!Instead, I sat at my computer doing blogging and making bookmarks!
My Grandma and I did gardening today. We pulled outcarrots, peas and tomatoes. We watered the garden because it hadn’t rained in awhile.
My mom doesn’t take apart clothes to make new ones. I buyclothes for myself on Amazon and they ship them to my house!
I don’t spend a lot of time outside unless my cousin Clarais over. Normally, I’m inside using technology like my computer, my printer, and my iPad!
Yours,
Ellie
