Canadian Freedoms
Each Canadian should be treated equally. They should all have the same freedoms. For instance, Canadians have the freedom to vote for whomever they want!
Even though Canada has two official languages (which are English and French), people are free to speak whatever language they want! Some people in my family grew up in Brazil so they like to speak Portuguese. They have the freedom to do that in Canada!
Culture is REALLY important to Canadians. People have the freedom to choose what kind of music to listen to and make, what kind of art to look at and create and what kind of movies to make and watch. I like to watch Mr. Dressup and listen to Shania Twain. Both of those are Canadian!
Unfortunately, some people in Canada are still not treated fairly and don’t feel like they have the same freedoms as others. Indigenous people are often discriminated against and can’t access the same freedoms (like clean drinking water). THIS IS NOT RIGHT! The government needs to work on making this more fair. Another example is how LGBTQ people weren’t (and sometimes still aren’t) given the same freedoms. This also needs to change! Every Canadian should have equal freedoms!
