Today you get to learn about someone really special! Her name is Helen Keller. She not only fought for women’s right to vote, but she also helped make sure the world was better for people with disabilities.
Here is your assignment:
1. Read pages 1 and 2 about Helen Keller. You and Catrina can take turns reading. The highlighted paragraphs are in big print at the end of this assignment page.
2. Watch this video about Helen Keller:

3. Answer the questions on pages 3-5. You’ll need scissors and glue (or tape) for page 5!
4. Color the Helen Keller coloring page (for your book, of course!).
TEACHER
Helen’s parents realized she needed special help, so they contacted a school for the blind.
They found Annie Sullivan there. Annie was blind at one point but she had surgery so she could see.
Annie was able to help Helen and was her helper for fifty years!
SPEAKING
A teacher for the deaf taught Helen how to talk by feeling sound vibrations from lips.
Helen started by saying a few letter and sounds, then words, and finally sentences! Helen was thrilled she could say words!
LATER LIFE
As Helen grew older, she wanted to help others. She gave lots of speeches and raised money for people with disabilities.
In World War 2 she visited soldiers who were hurt.
