Hanukkah:Hanukkah is a Jewish Festival of Lights that takes place over eight days. Eight candles are lit. Families and friends exchange gifts each of the eight days and eat a variety of traditional Jewish foods like potato pancakes and jelly donuts.

Chinese New Year:Chinese New Year celebrates the beginning of the new year according to the Chinese calendar, which varies according to the phases of the moon. The holiday lasts for seven days and during that week, there are feasts, fireworks and parades through the streets with a long figure of a dragon.

Kwanzaa:Kwanzaa is a holiday that celebrates African culture and tradition. It is celebrated everywhere. It lasts for seven days, from December 26th to January 1st. Celebrations include gift-giving, music and eating lots of yummy food. The community celebrates the seven principles of Kwanzaa: unity, self-determination, responsibility, community cooperation, purpose, creativity and faith.

Eid:Eid is celebrated to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan, where Muslims don’t eat anything during the hours of the day when the sun is shining. Many Muslims start the day by praying, followed by visits with loved ones and lots of eating of super-yummy food.

Diwali:Diwali is a holiday in India, but is celebrated all over the world. Diwali means “festival of lights” and it’s a celebration of the light overcoming the darkness, and good overcoming evil. People light lamps and have celebrations that include decorating, sand art, eating and exchanging gifts.
