Canada’s Democracy
Choices and freedom are really important to Canadians. Democracy means that Canadians over the age of 18 can choose who their leaders will be. They choose their leaders in elections.
To learn about elections, we had a pretend one at home!
We voted for the person who we wanted to choose what to have for supper.

Here is a picture of what our ballot looked like.
A ballot is what you use to vote with.
I went to my polling station, which was at the island!
Then I voted at the table, where NO one else could see who I was voting for. In a real election, people would also vote privately behind a box.

It is important to research before voting so that you can vote for someone who has the same values as you. For instance, I wouldn’t vote for my mom because she would want PICKLES for supper! Being able to vote for leaders helps Canadians use their voices and be heard.
It is a very important part of democracy!
