What I learned in Citizenship Class For December 10th
I learned about cultural equity. That means treating all people, regardless of their background, equally. My background is Russian, Brazilian, Scottish and English. In Canada, there are many people from all sorts of different backgrounds!
But NOT everyone is treated fairly. Indigenous people have been treated bad by the Canadian government for a long time. The government is trying to make it better, but still has a LOT of things to work on! For instance, there are some towns in the North where they have dirty water and have to boil it before they drink it. That is very unfair!
I also learned about how new immigrants should be treated better. One of the ways we can do this is by offering free English classes. In my home town, there are English classes that take place in the library where my mom works! That is very cool!
