Following the Law
Laws are rules that protect people and the things they own. Laws help people live safely and fairly with one another. Laws are part of the Constitution of Canada.
Everyone has to follow the law! There are three levels of government that make laws: federal, provincial and municipal.
These levels of government share power to make laws.
The federal government is in charge of jobs, taxes and voting. Provincial government is in charge of hospitals and schools. Municipal government is in charge of police and firefighters.
As a citizen, it is my job to follow the laws! The police help make sure that people follow the law. Canada has special police called the RCMP. That stands for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The RCMP have been around since 1920.
