• Pîkiskwêwin is a Cree word that means language or conversation
• Settler Colonizers in Canada
would NOT let Indigenous people speak their languages in residential school’s.
• First Nations people grew up and did NOT remember how to speak their own language. This meant that many important connections and memories were lost.
• Language revitalisation is an
important part of decolonization.
