The ovenbird has a loud and happy-sounding song the can be heard throughout Manitoba’s forests in spring.
The actual birds can be hard to spot though, since they like to hide in the trees and stop singing if someone gets close.
The name “ovenbird” comes from the oven-shaped nests the birds build on the ground.
Ovenbirds are found in Manitoba from mid May to late September.
They eat off the ground and eat worms, snails, insects, and sometimes seeds.
