– She was born in Portugal in 1705
– She was kidnapped and made a slave because she had Black skin. She was brought over to New France (which would become Canada) by her slave owners
– That was very TERRIBLE
– Marie tried to escape many times because she wanted freedom and she was mistreated
– She was blamed for starting a big fire in Montreal
– She was killed because she tried to escape
– Slavery is very bad because people are not meant to be owned—everyone deserves freedom and equality
